SQL 2005 Data Mining Gains Mindshare At KDD-2005
SQL Server 2005 Data Mining had a prominent presence again
this year at KDD, the foremost data mining research and industry conference,
held August 21-24 in Chicago.
The SQL Data Mining booth had several machines set up for attendees to explore
the product through tutorials and demo applications that showcased its
wide-ranging capabilities and integration with other BI components in the SQL
Server 2005 product family, including Reporting Services and Integration
Services. Bogdan Crivat, from the SQL Data Mining development team, also
unveiled a framework he is working on that allows customers and independent
software developers to easily develop plug-in algorithms for SQL Server 2005
Data Mining using CLR languages like C# or VB.NET. This will soon be available
for download from
www.sqlserverdatamining.com.
On the partner front, SPSS and
KXEN shared booth space with the SQL DM team,
eliciting much interest and excitement with their SQL Server 2005 integration
pieces. SPSS demonstrated their data exploration and data preparation elements
integrated into the Business Intelligence Development Studio alongside the SQL
Server 2005 designers, while KXEN showed off their specialized plug-in algorithm
for classification.
